Below is a new colour wheel for choosing colours. The colour wheel is easy to use, use the outer circle to choose your colour and use the inner square to choose your shade, the resulting code and colour will show in text box.
To use the colour wheel, hold your left mouse key over one of the small circles, keeping your mouse button held down, move the circle to find your desired colour.
You can also use the colour wheel to test a colour code, just type the colour code you want in the text box, making sure you there is a # (hex) at the beginning of the code, the colour will then show in the text box and on the colour wheel.
To use the codes for armagetron text, you will need to remove the # code or the colours will not work.
For a detailed graphical guide on changing your armagetron chat colours take a look at the coloured text guide, or read the detailed instructions below.

It is very simple to change colours whilst typing in armagetron. Changing colours helps you to personalise your game and character.
To type in colour, press your 'S' key or whatever kay you have bound for instant chat, before you type a word you need to decide on a colour, if you had decided on red you would type 0xff0000 then everything you type after would be in red, you can do this for a single word or letter, but if you wanted the first word to be red and all words after that to be white you would have to use 2 colour codes.
For example typing 0xff0000H0x0000ffI will be HI
0xff00ffLOL 0x0000ffLOL 0xff0000LOL will give you LOL LOL LOL
The 0 is a zero not the letter o and you must never use capitals for any colour code letters otherwise the code will not work, ie 0xff0000 will work 0xFF0000 wouldn't.
As you are typing the code everything after the 0x disapears but the code is still being input even though you can't see it, so you have to remember where you are upto, if you are unsure, just press backspace until the 0x appears again and carry on inputting your colour code.
All colour codes contain six characters, the first 2 represent red, the middle 2 represent green and the last 2 represent blue.
You can include colours in all your chat key binds, so when you press one of your instant chat keys you can have some colourful text.
When using colours within a chat bind you have to remember that you are limited to a certain amount of characters, and each colour code you use counts as 8 characters, so when you have a few colourful instant chats and use 2 or more in succession, some game servers see this is as spam and you may be silenced or kicked for chat spamming.
In game you may have noticed some players typing in one colour without using chat binds and without typing the colour code each time they speak, this is done by
1. Open Armagetron
2. Select 'Player Setup' on the main menu and press Enter
3. Select 'Player 1 Settings' on the main menu and press Enter
4. Scroll to 'Instant Chat Setup' and press Enter
5. Highlight the first Instant Chat that you do not use, and delete whatever is currently in it.
6. Type in the colour code you want to use as your default text colour, followed by a \ at the end of the colour code. The \ leaves the chat “open”, so when you press that instant chat key anything you write there will be in your chosen colour, as an example, if you have say chosen red as a font colour, type 0xff0000\ in the appropriate instant chat box, then when you press that chat key and type all your text will be in red.
You can colour your player name the same way you colour your text. Your player name colour is always a reflection of your chosen bike colour, you can change just one letter or your whole name colour.
1. Open Armagetron
2. Select 'Player Setup' on the main menu and press Enter
3. Select 'Player 1 Settings' on the main menu and press Enter
4. Type your colour code at the beginning of your name like 0xff0000Sylv would make your name red, ie, Sylv.
When colouring your player name you have to remember you have a limited amount of characters and each colour code counts as 8 characters, if you go over the characters allowed, although your name may look ok to you in player settings, it will not display correctly in game.
If you would like a dual coloured name, then colour the second part of your name, letting the first part of your name be dictated by your bike colour, for example if your bike colour was red and you wanted your name to be part blue, you would type your name as normal then type the colour code in front of the part of your name you want to display as blue, ie Sy0x0000fflv would display your name as Sylv.
