Being asked to be a server admin or moderator is a total honour and also a huge responsibility. Make sure you do not abuse your admin or moderator powers and always make sure of the rules the server owner would like you to follow and what comands you are allowed to use as admin or moderator.
Each server owner has their own ideas on how they want their server administrating.
Most server owners have admins to help with abusive players, campers and players with high pings. Make sure with the server owner as to what they consider to be abusive, and how tolerant they want you to be. You also need to know what is considered to be a high ping, you may have your own ideas about what is a high ping, but the server owner may have different views, ie on one server, i have been asked to only kick a player if their ping goes above 700, on another server if its 300. Before kicking anyone for their ping, talk to them first, try and help them as some people have no idea about ping and how it affects game play.
If a player is abusive, again talk to them first, this usually stops most and they will behave, especially when they are warned that they will be kicked or even banned. If a player still misbehaves then kick them or ban them, sometimes after one kick a player will behave. If a player is abusive, take a screenshot to show the server owner, this helps if there is a dispute, most players do not take well to being kicked, regardless of the reason.
DO NOT disclose your password to anyone else. If by accident you do so, inform the server owner straight away so he can change the password. Make sure you are on the correct server before typing your password.
All admin commands are entered via the normal chat command.
/players
This gives you a list of players, each with a number by their name, it also shows who is logged in as admin. You do not have to be logged in as admin to use this command.
/login (password)
Logs you in as admin. You have to be logged in as admin to be able to kick or ban a player.
/admin kick (player number)
This will kick a player from a server. You can also type the players name, but using the player number can be alot easier, especially if the players name contains ascii characters.
/admin ban (player number)
This bans the player from the server. There is a default ban time, but you can extend this if you feel its necessary, just add a number to the end of the player number, ie /admin ban (player name) 6000 this would ban the player for 6000 minutes.
/admin kill (player number)
This command does what it says, it literally kills a player, it doesn't kick or ban them, the player just explodes. Using the kill command can be quite useful against campers and can be more fun and effective than just kicking them.
/logout
Logs you out as being admin. As soon as you leave a server you will be automatically logged out.
/admin center_message (message)
This displays a large message in the center of the screen for all to see. Do not use this command without permission, as not all server owners allow admins to use this command, and it can be annoying to other players.
There is an easy and secure way to admin a server, by using chat binds for some admin commands.
Instant Chat - /admin login (password)
Instant Chat - /admin kick \
Instant Chat - /admin ban \
Instant Chat - /admin kill \
Instant Chat - /logout
The \ at the end of the message leaves the admin command open, so when you press the instant chat you have bound to the command, the command displays but is left open for you to add a player number.
You can bind chat keys do admin commands as shown below, but this is less secure as there is a chance you could kick a player accidentally, plus you only have so many chat keys, but if you are a server moderator and kick is the only command you are allowed to use, the setup below could be useful.
When you have an instant chat key set up as a kick command, if you are logged in, as soon as you press the key you have set, the player will be instantly kicked, there would be no need to type any other commands.
Instant Chat - /admin kick 1
Instant Chat - /admin kick 2
Instant Chat - /admin kick 3
Instant Chat - /admin kick 4
Instant Chat - /admin kick 5
Instant Chat - /admin kick 6
Instant Chat - /admin kick 7
Instant Chat - /admin kick 8
Instant Chat - /admin kick 9
Instant Chat - /admin kick 10
Instant Chat - /admin kick 11
Instant Chat - /admin kick 12
Instant Chat - /admin kick 13
Instant Chat - /admin kick 14
Instant Chat - /admin kick 15
Instant Chat - /admin kick 16
Every command you enter shows in the servers chatlogs and can be checked on, so do not abuse your admin powers.
